Serenity Sunday: In Everything Give Thanks! (23rd February 2014)

A blessed Sunday morning to you!

Today I want to testify about the greatness of the Lord Jesus Christ. Over the past two weeks, my family, I and our close friends and relatives were all praying for my sister (the only sibling I have left) to get well. She was diagnosed with Herpes Zoster aka Shingles two weeks ago and boy was it nasty! Not only was it difficult to treat, it also caused my sister’s body and immune system to really break down, thus giving birth to other complications. The hospital bill sky-rocketed and I’m telling you, if it weren’t for God’s awesome power, I don’t know how we’re able to make it out from there. But you know what? We’re able to pay the bill through God’s mighty provision and my sister is now at home and on her way to a speedy recovery. How did it all happen? God’s miracle – which brings me now to the topic of this post: In everything, give thanks!”

It is so easy to thank the Lord when everything is going our way, right? It’s easy to be grateful when we’re blessed, when we’re healthy, when we’re doing great in our job, when we’ve reached our goals, when we’re successful, when everything’s fine. But can we still thank God when the going gets tough? Can we still say that God is good when suddenly our world is falling apart? This reminds me of Job and all the tests he went through and passed for the glory of God.
Job 2:9-10 (NIV)
His wife said to him, “Are you still holding on to your integrity? Curse God and die!”
He replied, “You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?”

Job is right. Are we only faithful and thankful to the Lord when we have a good life? How are we in the face of trials and sufferings? You know what I realized over the past couple of weeks? I realized that the situation brought me closer to God. I became more prayerful because of what happened to my sister. God also used the situation for our family to be more united and faithful to Him. I’m overseas and because of my sister’s condition, my mom called me almost everyday. I felt closer to home than ever before. Not only that, brothers and sisters in Christ extended their help like a whirlwind. God's grace is truly amazing and His awesome power is unquestionably unmatched! He showed us once more that in every day of our lives, there is something to be thankful for whether it’s a blessing or suffering. I give God my endless praise, worship and thanksgiving today and forever. Amen.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV)
"Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."

My Lazy Day Simple and Cozy Outfit Ft. Ray-Ban RB5121 A 2000

You know those days where you just don’t want to get out of bed but you have to? Those days where you’d rather be at home watching a movie or snuggling with a book and a hot cup of tea, or maybe just surfing the net the whole day or probably cuddling your phone and playing flappy bird all day long (haha got ya?!), but you really just got to do some errands? Well, I call those days “lazy days”. And you know what? It’s good  to have a go-to-lazy-day outfit because let’s face it, when you’re not in the mood to go out, why would you be in the mood to even think of picking out a nice outfit? Right?

So today, I’m going to share with you my Lazy Day Simple and Cozy Outfit, but before that, let me just say that I’m not a fashionista. I don’t really follow the trend when it comes to fashion. Comfort is my first priority. I don’t dress to impress.  Alright?! That said, here is what I would want to wear on days where I still would like to look a little bit put-together without trying too hard.

Starting from my top: an Oversized Cable Knit Turtleneck Sweater – this is perfect for me because it’s very comfy and I have zero tolerance to the cold weather. Even when I’m simply strolling at the mall, I would easily get cold, so a sweater like this will not only keep me comfy and cozy, it will also keep me warm and happy!

Then I’m gonna pair it with some black cropped button leggings, coz it’s super easy to move when you’re wearing leggings. In fact it’s like you’re not wearing anything – it’s that comfy!

For my feet, I’d go with these flat sole woven sandals, coz it gives me that “homey” kind of feel. It’s a no-fuzz-kind-of-footwear, perfect for when you need to run some errands or when you quickly need to meet up with friends or you badly need to go out and grab a bite coz your pantry ran out of stock. It’s super stress-free and comfy to walk with, allowing your feet to breathe and relax.

For accessories, I believe that less is more, so I’d go with just probably either a bracelet or in this case a necklace. I chose this cursive love pendant design because it looks so dainty. A touch of class on a very simple outfit can make everything looks so stylish, in my opinion.
And because I never leave the house without carrying a purse, this Faux Leather Messenger Bag from Aeropostale is the perfect match to my very laid-back attire.

But of course my whole look wouldn’t be complete without a pair of Ray-Ban RB5121 A 2000 sunglasses. Why? It’s pretty simple. I can skip doing my eye makeup with this pair of sunglasses. All I gotta do is proceed with my normal face routine, apply some lip&cheek tint and put these beautiful babies right on and BAM! I’m good to go! It’s as simple and straightforward as that.

You can get these glasses on and there are so many other styles to choose from, so head on there now! ^_^

Hi everyone! Remember this post? Well, I have always been very open about the fact that I’m not a nail-polish-girl not because I don’t love nail polishes but because I simply don’t have the gift of beautifully putting ‘em on mah nails. LOL. That being said, I still got invited to attend the Jacqueline Burchell Spring Collection launch which was held at the National Library Building on 10th February, Monday. So I was thinking that it’s probably because of that post.

Anyhoo, I went to the event and upon entering, I noticed right away how it’s filled with fun and bright colors as well as beautiful and warm people.

It’s just sad that I didn’t get to bring a plus one with me coz you know I’m really a shy girl (in person) especially when I’m alone, but the good thing is, I was able to take loads of photos. Ya know! You gotta keep yourself busy to forget the fact that you don’t know anyone in the crowd, and it worked to my advantage.

Although the event is primarily about their Spring Collection...

...the presentation talked more about their new One-Step and Brush-On Gel Polishes: its features and THE proper application.

They said it could last for up to two weeks without chipping. And I was like, "That's awesome! That's exactly what I need." Too bad I didn't get to experience how awesome those gel polishes are. We didn't get to take home any free samples to try and there were only two manicurists at the how? Hahaha! But that's fine. No biggie! ^_^

We also get to witness the signing of contract with their new partners (Japan).

After the presentation, we’re given the freedom TO ROAM AROUND;

PLAY WITH THEIR DISPLAYED COLLECTIONS (I didn't really do that – I just took photos);

HAVE OUR NAILS PAINTED BY THEIR MANICURISTS (I didn’t avail of that privilege either, coz again there were only two manicurists and there were a lot of us there.);

make our mouths and tummies satisfied with the delicious pastries they prepared for the event and basically JUST... TO HAVE FUN!

I even met Melissa of She’s so much prettier and lovelier in person, and she’s very nice. Did you know I won one of her giveaways last year? You probably didn't, coz I’ve been slacking on my posts. Oh well.

Overall, it’s a fun and colorful event. Even though I didn't get to mingle with anyone else there 'coz that's just me, I think the event was a success.

How was your childhood? Mine's okay. Not exceptional but it was good. I have beautiful memories that could last me a lifetime. You know what's not good? The fact that there are so many children out there that don't even get to live their childhood the way it should be lived. Instead of being taken care of by their parents, they're the one taking care of themselves. Instead of happily playing with their friends, they're miserably working just so they could live. While there are children complaining about the toys and gifts they got for Christmas, there are some wishing there are other people who could donate their unwanted stuff to children like them.

I may not know enough about Child Labour but I know a group that promotes awareness about it. Today I want to share with you the Save Our Children movement. It is a campaign founded by a group of students from Republic Polytechnic. They aim to raise awareness on the exploitation of child labour. If we could all just head out to their Facebook Page and hit the LIKE button, we could help this group in spreading the word about the worthy cause that they're fighting for.

Serenity Sunday: COME AS YOU ARE (2nd February 2014)

Good morrrrrrrrninggggg, everyone! And Happy Month of Love!!! ^_^

It’s a fine Sunday morning and I just want to share with y'all how I feel right now. I feel so blessed. Don’t you feel so blessed today, too? I woke up and… yes! That’s it! I. WOKE. UP. Isn’t it amazing, you guys?!? I’m still alive! I’m still breathing. I’m given another day to experience God’s miracles. The sun is up, the wind is blowing and I’m alive and kicking! I feel so blessed for being able to live another day. Another day to live as God’s child. Another day to live as a wife, a sister, a friend, a dreamer, a wanderer… another day to live as MYSELF. :)

You know what? Today, I’m gonna tell you a story. There’s this one story I heard when I was younger (yeah... like over a decade ago - I’m really old, so what?! LOL). And I’m gonna share it with you the way I remember it. Here goes:

There was once a painter who wandered out in the streets hoping to see an inspiration for his new masterpiece. While he was walking, he passed by a man who seemed like a beggar because of the way he looked, dressed and acted.

Suddenly, the painter knew what he’s going to paint. He approached the beggar, and asked him if he could be his model for his new masterpiece. With a happy heart and an evidently excited face, the man granted the painter’s request.

The painter asked the man to come to his studio later in the day and the man agreed. Later that day, the painter heard someone knocking on the door. He was ecstatic because he knew that it’s the man from the streets whom he asked to be his model. When he opened the door, a very well-dressed man with neatly combed hair and clean face beheld his eyes. The painter asked who the man was and when the man introduced himself, the painter was in shock.

He tried to immediately recover from his shock and politely asked the man to come inside but the disappointment in his eyes cannot be concealed. The man noticed and asked him what’s wrong.

The painter answered with a question, “What happened?”

The man was confused, so he asked, “What do you mean, sir?”

The painter replied, “You look… so different.”

And the man cheered up because he thought that was a compliment. He said excitedly, “When you asked me to be your model this morning, it’s the happiest moment of my life, because finally there will be a meaning for my existence. Finally, someone saw me. Someone is interested in me. So I asked some kind-hearted people I know to help me look good… look my best. I took a bath, borrowed clothes from some people I know, combed my hair and cleansed my face. I wanted to be the perfect model. I wanted to impress you, sir.”

The painter bowed his head for a moment and when he looked up, he touched the man’s shoulders. He said, “You didn’t have to do anything to impress me. You don’t need to be perfect. You just need to come as you are. That’s all I wanted.”

And that’s how God is to us. I feel so blessed knowing that I can come to God whenever I want, wherever I am, whatever I’m doing, no matter what I’m wearing. I can come to Him as my bare self and He will gladly accept me with arms opened wide. Knowing how gracious our God is and how unconditional His love is for you and for me is enough reason for me to feel so blessed today.

Let me end this post with this song from Jaci Velasquez. Have a blessed Sunday, everyone!

Isaiah 1:18 (ESV)
“'Come now, let us reason together,' says the Lord:
'though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.'"
